The Maltings
The Maltings, a 350m2 residence built in the early 20th century as a storage facility for grains like barley and wheat, holds a rich history within a conservation area on the North Norfolk coast. Upon purchasing the property, the owners tasked us with modernizing it, ensuring weatherproofing, and re-imagining the internal layout to accommodate themselves and their six children.

Drawing inspiration from the building's industrial past, we devised a strategy that married the client's desire for light and spacious open-plan living. We achieved this by converting the roof into an insulated pitched roof and opening up the entire upper floor to create a pitched ceiling, removing the attic in the process. With four-meter-high ceilings and new timber structural trusses, the house embraces its industrious history, featuring metal ties and railings throughout.

To enhance natural light, we replaced all the windows and added new skylights. Additionally, we refreshed the external render and introduced new landscaping, including a raised metal deck, to expand outdoor amenity space for the owners. We're eagerly anticipating the opportunity to bring this vision to life and see the transformation of The Maltings unfold.
